The Wildlife Ponds & Woodland

The Wildlife Ponds and Woodland

Beyond the paddock are two large ponds surround by a small woodland area and beyond that a further paddock.    This is a lovely place to visit, especially in summer when there is an abundance of wild flowers and the smell of freshly cut hay.  In winter when it snows this can also be an adventurous walk through the deep snow and the kids will love being pulled down the gently slope.   The large ponds are a haven for wildlife and it is not unusual to see deer grazing the paddock, wild geese on the pond and of course there is our resident Barn Owl and our noisy Little Owls which breed every year at Boreat and the babies can be seen visiting the bird table.

We are establishing water lilies, planting the banks and creating a bog plant garden in the very wet areas.   There are rustic benches by the ponds where guests can enjoy the silence.
